goose is an open-source AI agent that covers coding, workflows, research, and automation, with a desktop app, a CLI, and an API. It was created at Block and moved to the Linux Foundation’s Agentic AI Foundation in April 2026. The agent is free under the Apache 2.0 license.
models and pricing
goose connects to 15+ providers, including Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, OpenRouter, Azure, Bedrock, and local models through Ollama. You bring your own provider keys, or reuse an existing Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini subscription through the Agent Client Protocol.
what it’s good at
goose leans on the MCP ecosystem: 70+ extensions connect it to databases, browsers, GitHub, and Drive. Portable YAML recipes make workflows shareable across a team, and subagents split work in parallel. It also ships security features its peers mostly lack, including prompt-injection detection and an adversary reviewer.
goose in crystl
goose runs in a crystl shard with its own model selection, activity visibility, and real approval cards for its tool calls, provided it is set to its default auto mode. Crystl treats its compatibility as partial because goose’s approve and smart_approve modes drop to a worktree veto with no card, and Always only ever grants a single allow.
The profile describes what crystl has tested; it never supplies a command, hook script, or launch setting. Those remain local to the Crystl installation.
